PKJ Custom Homes Knows How to Listen

After building custom homes for over 20 years, we have learned how to listen. We know that the finest and most extraordinary homes lie in each customers imagination. We realize that you alone have a creative vision for your new residence. In working with you, our goal--from start to finish--is to give your vision form and space. We accomplish this task by listening carefully to your ideas, hopes and expectations, as well as becoming aware of your budget limitations. For us home building is an art that requires careful craftsmanship, meticulous attention to detail, cost consciousness and, above all, an unrelenting commitment to customer satisfaction.

Careful Craftsmanship

PKJ Custom Homes hears our clients when they say they want a well built home. With over 20 years of experience, we understand our craft. This has taught us everything there is to know about the trades required to build a home and the materials that are commonly used. We possess the experience needed to assemble and manage a team of contractors. We work with contractors who are highly skilled, extremely service-oriented and very cost competitive. We ensure the high quality of their work by creating definitive standards for them to follow and monitoring their progress through daily inspections.

Meticulous Attention to Detail

PKJ Custom Homes hears that our clients want us to continually monitor the details. Our responsibility is to transform the home in your mind into the home of reality. Accomplishing this complex task requires knowledge of and attention to every detail. It will not take you long to see that we are a stickler for the fine points of home building. Everything you see--the initial plans, the specifications list, the construction contract--reflects our meticulous devotion to the macro and micro aspects of home building. It is our way of making sure everything is done right for you the first time--a practice that saves time--and money.
In most cases, our clients must procure a loan to finance the home. To help you determine your budget and present the current financing choices, we will refer you to our banker. She has helped many of our clients and is one of the most service oriented professionals in our local banking community.

Creation of the Specifications

After you have selected a site, established a preliminary budget, and while the construction documents are being finished, we will create a detailed list of specifications for the home. In this step, we consider it critical to communicate the comparative features, costs and the benefits of certain materials and/or products and their limitations. For example, there are a wide variety of kitchen and bath cabinets available with many custom features. We will help you choose the brands, styles and colors that best fit your preferences, as well as your cost considerations. An interior designer will available to help make some of the selections.

Development of the Costs

Once the specifications have been outlined, we are ready to bid your house. In determining the price, we will determine the most cost-effective alternatives for completing the home. These will be based, of course, upon your selections. For example, you may wish to have us construct a concrete tile roof, which is much more expensive than a 3-tab asphalt shingle roof. In this case, we will offer you the most cost effective method and materials for building a concrete tile roof.

The Construction Contract

When the bid is approved and a final price is determined, we will draw up a bilateral contract which incorporates the plans and specifications. Designed as a safeguard for both the client and the contractor, the contract describes the payment terms, the final completion date, express warranties and final inspections for the home. We will carefully review this document with you to make sure you understand all its provisions.

Building Your Home

When the contract is signed, construction begins. We develop a critical path schedule to ensure timely completion of the home. We utilize our regular subcontractors and notify them of their respective start dates according to the critical path schedule. All our outstanding craftsmen are committed to extremely high quality standards and service. We ensure that the home is being built according to the specifications and our standards of quality by inspecting the work--usually on a daily basis. Our supervisor takes personal pride and responsibility for supervising all contractors and monitoring their work.
We encourage you to visit the site during construction. This gives you the opportunity to provide feedback on our efforts and ask any questions.

Final Inspection

Once the home is completed, you, our president, Preston Jewett, and our supervisor will conduct a thorough inspection. All minor incomplete items are noted at this time and made as soon as possible.

One-Year Warranty

Our service to you continues--even after the home is completed. We guarantee that the home will be free of defects in materials and workmanship for one year according to the terms of our limited warranty. A warranty and maintenance booklet, created specifically for your home, is provided for your consultation. If you have problems with the home during the first year, we will be available to resolve them-- quickly and satisfactorily.

At PKJ Custom Homes we want the custom home building process to be as satisfying to you as the final masterpiece--your new home. By seeking your personal involvement every step of the way, PKJ Custom Homes offers you a firsthand opportunity to watch your creative vision come to life.
